Fulfilling Our Mission in the Covid-19 Environment

When the current Covid-19 environment restricted our ability to serve in-person, the Central North Carolina Region developed new ways to support our signature organizations.

Our Easter dinner at Dolan Manor is a signature event for our region. This year we could not gather together so we developed an alternative to celebrate the Easter Season and support these residents. In lieu of this year’s dinner, the region gave each resident a $30 gift card to Food Lion along with an Easter card, a special note and a flower. Although we are disappointed that we could not share dinner we look forward to being with the resident again when the environment is safe.

Each September the CNC Region Service Committee schedules a luncheon and special afternoon for the mothers and children from the Room At The Inn. While the luncheon was not possible we supported them with a gift bag that included a $25 Target gift certificate, a supply of baby wipes, hand sanitizer and sweets for the Moms along with a card and encouraging message. Needless to say, this does not replace the beautiful event we normally host for them, but given the current situation with the pandemic, it was a much appreciated alternative.

Signature Organization Service Projects:

Dolan Manor Residential Community

Dolan Manor is a low income senior housing community. We serve this community in two ways:

  • Members serve dinner during the Easter and Christmas seasons. This is a holiday-themed evening for resident of Dolan Manor. The evening consists of a catered dinner and resident entertainment.
  • Each Thursday members pick-up produce from Greensboro Urban Ministry and deliver/distribute to residents of the Dolan Manor Community.

SECU Family House

The SECU Family House provides affordable lodging and support services in a caring environment for referred adult patients and/or their caregivers who travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for medical treatment. Order of Malta members prepare and serve dinner to the guests of the Family House. This allows the guest to have a nourishing meal in a relaxed environment after a day of medical treatment.

Room At The Inn

Room At The Inn, provides housing and programs for single, pregnant women and single mothers with children by offering them opportunities to develop new lives of healthy, hope-filled independence. Order of Malta members design and serve an luncheon for the residents of the Room at the Inn and its alumni. This encompasses serving a catered dinner, babysitting services for the children, entertainment and a gift bag for the mothers.

Caring Services

Caring Services provides quality substance use disorder treatment and housing services to those seeking recovery. Order of Malta members prepare a barbeque lunch to the clients and families of Caring Services. Our goal is to provide a social event in a supportive environment.

Spiritual Enrichment / Defense of the Faith

To continually deepen our faith foundation and stay abreast on current issues and challenges, the Central North Carolina Region conducts regular spiritual enrichment sessions for its members and educational forums for the larger faith community. These are led by our members and guest speakers.

In addition to our monthly First Saturday Mass the region gathers for special events such as the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Lourdes send-off mass, the Feast of St. John the Baptist and a special Christmas Mass and dinner.

Order-Wide Activities

Members of the Central North Carolina Region travel to Lourdes, France to participate in the annual Order of Malta pilgrimage. We join with other Knights and Dames throughout the world to accompany the sick to pray for healing.

We gather each year with the other regions of the Federal Association to welcome new members and participate in the investiture ceremonies.

About

The Central North Carolina Region was established in 2014. The group was initially formed in 2009 as an extension of the Charlotte Region and by 2014 membership had grown to the level to be designated as a new region. Originally established as the Greensboro Region, the name was changed to Central North Carolina to better reflect the regions geographical coverage. We currently have over 30 dedicated Knights and Dames guided by our chaplain Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio. The Central North Carolina Region serves the sick and the poor in seven counties in Central North Carolina primarily in the Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem communities.

Monthly Mass

Members gather for Mass celebrated by Monsignor Anthony Marcaccio Chaplain of the Order, at 8:00 am on the first Saturday of the month at the St. Pius the Tenth in Greensboro, NC followed by breakfast and a business meeting.
